Small former village absorbed into the city north of Kirchberg — genuinely quiet, well-priced, and useful for tram commuters.

Weimerskirch is a former village on the Alzette north of Kirchberg, now technically part of Luxembourg City but still feeling like its own place. There's a village church, a couple of old cafes on Rue de Kirchberg, and not much else beyond quiet residential streets climbing back up toward Eich. It's the definition of unglamorous — but if you can grab a room here at €78-€104, you’re 5 minutes on foot from the funicular that connects to Kirchberg tram and airport.

There is nothing to do in Weimerskirch itself. It's a sleep-and-commute location. Choose it for the price and the calm; skip it for atmosphere or convenience if you’re not comfortable with a couple of buses. The walk along the Alzette from Weimerskirch toward Dommeldange (further north) is genuinely nice on a clear morning, and Parc Laval nearby has decent trees and paths.

By 9pm the streets around the church are dark and silent, with maybe a light on in a front room and a dog barking somewhere up toward Rue de Muhlenbach. There is no bar to walk to, no late kebab shop, nothing that keeps a light on past ten. That is either exactly what you want after a long travel day or a good sign you should be sleeping in Kirchberg or the old town instead, where a walk home after dinner is actually a thing you can do.

It suits business travellers on a budget who need Kirchberg or the airport and are happy to plan two short hops to get there, and it suits anyone doing a longer stay who wants a proper residential street rather than a hotel corridor. It does not suit a first-time visitor who wants to walk out the door into restaurants and shops, a family without a car who will tire of the bus timing, or anyone booking on the promise that Kirchberg is walkable from here in under half an hour — it is not.

Where to stay in Weimerskirch

A couple of guesthouses and one small hotel. Expect €78-€113 in low season and closer to €95-€130 in spring and autumn when Kirchberg's conference calendar pushes overflow demand north. Best rooms are on the streets uphill from the Alzette (Rue de Muhlenbach) for quiet nights. Avoid anything on the main through-road (Rue de Beggen) for traffic, especially rooms facing the street rather than the courtyard. As with Cents and Neudorf, apartment rentals often beat hotels on value here for longer stays, particularly for a week or more where the nightly rate drops sharply. If price and quiet matter more than a walkable evening, book here; if you want to step outside after dinner, book in Kirchberg or Limpertsberg instead and treat Weimerskirch as somewhere to pass through rather than sleep.

Getting around & the essentials

Weimerskirch to Kirchberg via funicular

From central Weimerskirch, walk down to Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg station, take the funicular up to the plateau (3 minutes, free), then walk south along Avenue Kennedy past the Philharmonie and Mudam to the Fort Thüngen viewpoint, where the old fortress walls give a clear view back down over the Alzette valley toward Weimerskirch and Pfaffenthal. About 40 minutes total including the funicular ride.

Bus 22 runs through Weimerskirch to Hamilius in about 15 minutes, free like all public transport in Luxembourg. The funicular at Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg station connects to Kirchberg tram in 3 minutes — better option for anything on the plateau, and it is a flat 5-minute walk from most guesthouses in the village. From the airport, bus 16 to Kirchberg then funicular down, about 25 minutes total; a taxi covers the same route in roughly 12 minutes for around €30. No tram directly through the village, and the nearest train station is Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg, a 10-minute walk downhill, useful for connections north toward Ettelbruck.
