Who it suits
Merl sits west of Belair, sharing the Parc de Merl-Belair, and slopes down toward the Route d’Arlon commercial strip. It's an unglamorous but pleasant residential zone. It suits travellers with children (playgrounds, park, a small lake with ducks), drivers who want easy motorway access, and anyone attending events at Luxexpo or Kirchberg who wants to escape the corporate hotel feel.
It doesn’t suit anyone without a car for a short stay — bus links to Ville Haute exist but take 20-25 minutes, and there's nothing walkable in terms of sights.
Price and practicalities
Options are limited to a few guesthouses and mid-range hotels like the Sieweburen on the wooded edge of the park. Doubles run 110-160 EUR, among the better values in the greater city.
Walkable: Parc de Merl-Belair, a couple of neighbourhood restaurants, the Belle Étoile shopping centre (largest in the country, 20 minutes on foot or 5 by bus), and the Cactus Belle Étoile hypermarket. Ville Haute is 15 minutes by bus 12 or 22.

Yes, especially if you have a car. The park has a lake, mini-golf, a playground and plenty of grass.
How far is Merl from the airport?
About 15 minutes by car via the Route d’Arlon and A6. Buses require a change.
