On the river, on the wine

Hôtel Saint-Nicolas in Remich is the anchor — riverside terrace, small spa, and walking distance to Caves St Martin and Domaine Krier-Welbes. Hôtel des Vignes just above Remich sits literally in the vineyards with south-facing rooms over the river bend. Hôtel Simon's Plaza in Ehnen is smaller but next to the Wine Museum and the walking path through Ehnen-Wormeldange, the prettiest stretch. Château de Schengen at the tri-border is a proper château hotel with a small pool and easy access to Luxembourgish, German and French vineyards.

Further north, Hôtel-Restaurant Koeppchen in Wormeldange has a legendary Sunday lunch and basic rooms above it. Hôtel Beau Séjour in Grevenmacher is the practical choice near the crémant houses of Bernard-Massard and Caves Legill.

How to actually use them

Do not try to visit the whole Moselle from Luxembourg City — it is 45 minutes each way and you will drink. Base yourself in Remich or Ehnen for two nights, walk between wineries during the day (they are 15-30 minutes apart on foot along the vineyard path), and eat local at night. Riesling, Pinot Gris and Crémant de Luxembourg are what to try; skip anything imported.

Rooms run €140-€260 in season (May-October), less in winter when many wineries close weekdays. Château de Schengen is the splurge at €280-€400 but the location on the tri-point is worth one night. Book weekends ahead in September during Fëschmaart and grape harvest events.
