The overall picture
Luxembourg is very safe by any international measure — violent crime is rare, the homicide rate sits around 0.7 per 100,000, and solo female travellers consistently report it as one of Europe\'s easier destinations. Police are polite and speak English. The country runs on French, German and Luxembourgish, with English very widely spoken in the capital.
The specific caveats
The Gare district around Rue de Strasbourg and Rue Joseph Junck has visible drug use and sex work after 10pm — not dangerous for tourists, but uncomfortable. Pickpocketing on the tram happens occasionally at rush hour. Rural areas including all castle towns, Mullerthal villages and the Moselle wine route are essentially incident-free. Overnight in Vianden or Echternach you can leave your rental car unlocked and nothing will happen (I still don\'t recommend that).

Sleep in Ville Haute, Belair, Limpertsberg or Kirchberg rather than Rue Joseph Junck end of Gare. Otherwise treat it like Amsterdam or Copenhagen.
