Mullerthal (Little Switzerland)

Hôtel Cocoon Le Mullerthal in Berdorf is the walkers' favourite — trail passes 200 metres from the door, spa for after, and boot-drying facilities that actually work. Hôtel Le Postillon in Larochette sits at the western trailhead with a good restaurant and easy access to Route 2. Hôtel Bel-Air in Echternach is the biggest option, with a pool, park grounds and location at the main trailhead. Hôtel de la Sûre in Echternach is cheaper and adequate for a night before hiking.

For remote overnights on the trail itself, Auberge Rêve d’Ardennes in Beaufort and Hôtel Meyer in Beaufort both let you break the long Route 2 into two days without a car shuttle.

Northern Ardennes

Hôtel Le Clervaux in Clervaux town centre is a proper design hotel that happens to be at the Escapardenne trailhead — the odd combination works. Hôtel Koener nearby is more traditional and cheaper. In Vianden, Hôtel Heintz has been run by the same family for generations and is the classic hiker's stop between routes.

Practical notes for both regions: most of these hotels do packed lunches on request (€10-€15), most have secure bike and boot storage, and most run a laundry service for multi-day walkers. The public bus network reaches all of them and is free, so linear hikes work without a car — check the CFL bus timetable before planning. Weekends in May, June and September book out weeks ahead.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Can you hike the Mullerthal without a car?

Yes. Base in Echternach or Berdorf, use free buses to reach trailheads, and pick loops that return to your starting bus stop.

Best month for the Mullerthal?

May and early June for green forests and waterfalls, or October for autumn colour. July-August the paths get busy and hot.
