The top three
Vianden (€9, open 10-6) is the obvious number one — restored, cinematic, chairlift access, ranks among Europe\'s finest medieval castles. Bourscheid (€7, open 11-5) is number two: bigger ruins, less restored, better views over the Sûre valley, half the crowds. Larochette (€5, open 10-6 April-October) is number three: a compact ruin on a rock spur above a pretty village, the country\'s most underrated castle.
The next four
Beaufort has two castles side by side — a medieval ruin (€7) and a 17th-century Renaissance château (€9, guided tour includes a taste of the local Cassero blackcurrant liqueur). Clervaux Castle houses the excellent Family of Man photography exhibition (€7, UNESCO Memory of the World). Esch-sur-Sûre is small but photogenic, free to enter the ruins. Wiltz is a proper Renaissance château with a garden festival in summer.
Doing them as a route
The classic castles-and-gorges loop: Luxembourg City, Vianden (night 1), Bourscheid (drive-by), Esch-sur-Sûre (lunch), Clervaux (night 2), back via Larochette. Three days, five castles. Free trains and buses cover most of it, but a car saves 2-3 hours.

Yes — the Luxembourg Pass (€26 for 2 days) covers Vianden, Bourscheid, Beaufort, Clervaux and Larochette plus museums.
Winter opening?
Vianden and Clervaux open year-round; Bourscheid, Beaufort and Larochette close November to March.
